Many of New Germany's early settlers were - you guessed it - of German origin so they likely named their new home after their old homeland. Located in Lunenburg County, one of its most prominent features is the LaHave River that runs through the community. On the river you will find Morgan Falls, where in 1996, a hydro power plant was built on the site of an abandoned pulp mill which was constructed by the Morgan Falls Pulp Company in 1893.

Exploring the LaHave River and New Germany Lake is easy! Simply launch your canoe or kayak from Veteran's Memorial Park boat ramp located on Highway 10.

Just on the outskirts of New Germany you will find River Ridge Common, "a 115 acre outdoor recreation site that offers picnic areas, a naturalized playground, an interactive art park and 4+ km of mountain bike trails (to date) for a variety of skill levels. Each of these features are constructed from wood, stone, and plant elements, inviting play and relaxation for all ages, revealing views of the river and a shady mossed gully that crosses the site. There is also a mountain bike skills area and pump track being added in the summer of 2020. Rest stops, look offs, and interpretive features allow users to enjoy special features, such as the lovely waterfalls of Indian Brook, and highlight the succession of a former working woodland growing back into a diverse Acadian Forest."

Looking to explore the neighbouring counties of Annapolis and Queens? The 122 km South Shore Annapolis Valley Trail travels between The Goose Chase Road in New Germany to the Town of Bridgetown in Annapolis County and Caledonia in Queens County.
