Somedays when I want to write but I just need to take a break from my own writing projects, I enjoy writing prompts. On one of the days I was craving some new prompts I stumbled across the Writer's Digest Writering Prompt Boot Camp - 14 days of writing prompts. It is a free download that they say is "two weeks worth of top-notch writing prompts designed to spark your mind and help you flex your creative muscles". For the free download click here.

For the next 14 days I will post my creations! If you have a website and post your creations feel free to email me the link and I can post it here.

Happy writing!

Day 1 Prompt

Breaking Up With Writer’s Block

It’s time for you and Writer’s Block to part ways. Write a letter breaking up with Writer’s Block, starting out with, “Dear Writer’s Block, it’s not you, it’s me …

Here is what I wrote:

Dear Writer’s Block,

It’s not you, it’s me. Actually, it’s not me either. I blame procrastination. What a royal pain in the arse he is. I can hear everyone now – technically it is I who procrastinates and not procrastination alone causing me to have not finished the novel I began writing in 2017. Procrastination just shows up whenever he wants and at the most inopportune times. To me, it is like he is just sitting there waiting until I actually have time to write and then shows up to hang out. His activities of choice are enjoying a movie or series on Netflix together (have you watched A League of Their Own yet?) or watching the Women’s National Soccer Team win their gold medal, qualify for the World Cup and all the other amazing things they do, or just talking about life – our dreams and goals - which for me mostly involve the desire to complete that novel and get published.

See! He did it again! Instead of working on my novel, here I am partaking in a two week writing prompt boot camp, presumably to help me overcome writer's block. I don’t have writer’s block! I have procrastination co-dependency. And that stops today!

Thanks so much for “listening” Writer’s Block. And no offense (I hate when people say that but it seems fitting here) I hope to not see you again.

Sincerely,

Author of yet incomplete novel (started 2017 – completed ??? (surely it is going to be completed in 2023, if not 2022)

Coming soon: Book 1 of a trilogy:
