1000 blog views a day - I want that - how do I get that?

I love writing. I have been writing stories since I learned how to print (and telling them since I learned how to talk). I wanted to write so badly that if I did not yet know how to properly construct a letter of the alphabet I made it up just so I could see it on the page. That's why until I learned how to write the letter R it looked like this:

I also love learning and sharing what I learn with others which is why I love blogging. I have learned what a blog is and how to blog and a lot of the technical sides to blogging but...

What still remains a mystery to me is how to get people to see what I am blogging. How do I get them to come to my site on a regular basis?

This is the next step in my journey as a blogger and I am taking you on the journey with me! I learn better by seeing advice in action so I am hoping to provide you the both the information and the action here on Orange Bonobo.

To start I have to say that a big part of the problem is that I am very inconsistent with my content for many reasons but the major two reasons are:

1. Who cares what I have to say?

This is the biggest one. I have lots of things I want to talk about and share and think people will be interested in but then I convince myself no one gives a crap. Who am I really? Would anyone else really find this interesting? If they will, am I the one that should be sharing the information?

2. I think of my blog more as a hobby and not as a potential business

I mean I want it to be a business. I would like to make a full time income as a writer/author/blogger but I know jack about business. And I already have a day job that consumes the majority of my brain power and working time. Plus the neverending but totally worth it familial responsibilities and a limited energy reserve.

I know there are a lot of you out there who want to blog and are inconsistent for the same reasons. I am going to try to change that as there is no sense in attracting readers if there is nothing new for them to read. So that is step 1 in my journey. Consistency! Right now for Orange Bonobo I am going to set a goal of two blog posts a week with no set days for these posts. I will be happy to post two times a week consistently to start. This post is post number 1 for the week!

I also have another blog I am trying to grow called Bluenoser which is a blog about my home province of Nova Scotia (on the east coast of Canada). The research I do for Orange Bonobo is a two-for-one as I can apply it to growing Bluenoser as well. Last week I set a goal of 2-3 blog posts per week for that blog and I met it. Let's see if I can meet it again this week, especially now that I have added 2 posts for this blog. It will all be worth it if I can get the traffic to both.

There have been times where I have been consistent with my blog posts on both Orange Bonobo and Bluenoser but my visitor numbers remained much unchanged for both blogs. But without understanding how to get visitors to my sites and without understanding what kind of a number of visitors I was looking for it was hard to move forward and so I did some research and apparently to monetize a blog it is suggested to try to consistently get 1000 or more visitors to your blog per day. And so that is my goal! I am going to consistently get 1000 visitors daily to both blogs. Since I am taking you on this journey with me I must start with my numbers as of today November 23, 2022. Here they are for Orange Bonobo:

Very discouraging - it is as if I don't even blog. I need to get 999-1000 more visitors daily for Orange Bonobo.

The numbers for Bluenoser look better but really are not the best either. The numbers as of November 23, 2022 are:

With 251 visitors in 30 days I am averaging about 8 visitors a day. So still a lot of work to do to reach that 1000 daily visitors. This is quite discouraging as I have posted a lot on Bluenoser and several posts have been popular but none widespread. Clearly just posting regularly and writing good content is not enough.

Let's see what advice is out there and see what advice helps me grow my traffic and how long it takes to get those 1000 visitors!

I googled this "the fastest way to get 1000 visitors a day to your blog" and besides many services I could pay for I found this post from Income Diary How to Promote Your Blog - The Fastest Way to 1000 Visitors Per Day written by Michael Dunlop. I like the sound of that! Let's see what he suggests. We will start with his first suggestion.

Create Great Content for Your Blog

He breaks this step into four sub steps, the first of which is KEYWORD RESEARCH.

He explains that we are trying to find keywords that get the most searches in google. Blog posts won't rank high for just a single keyword so we are looking for several - sometimes hundreds to thousands of keywords. He suggests a tool called SEMRush. They offer a free trial. Once there, we use their Keyword Explorer tool and search the topic we want to write a blog post about. Here it goes!

SEMRush's free trial is 7 days and then it is $119.95/month. And of course it is one of those trials where you have to cancel before the 7 days are up or you are charged. I am horrible with cancelling on time so I am not going to take that risk right now. I am all for spending money to make money but I don't even understand how to use a keyword explorer tool so I certainly do not know if SEMRush's price is worth it for me. I will be looking for a free keyword explorer to start so I guess this post ends here for now.
