As writer's, when we are working on a specific story or writing piece and we have time to write, we often try to force ourselves to write only on that piece. After all, life is busy and it is hard to find time to write! Sometimes his practice hinders us as we try to force our creativity instead of warming up our brains in order to get our ideas to flow freely.
When I find myself in the situation where I am trying to force the ideas to come I find it useful to just write about anything. Sometimes I write down my thoughts or I jot down, in point form, any ideas I have in my brain about anything. Sometimes I use writing prompts - the first one I can find. Other times I try to find writing prompts in the genre I wish to write in which right now is dystopian.
As I mentioned in my post Not Your Typical Day at the Beach, I tend to envision my writing as movie scenes so I find video writing prompts particularly useful. I watch the videos and write any observations or thoughts that come to mind without editing them - if I think it, I jot it down - I don't have to use it and my thoughts don't even have to make sense at the time. I let myself feel all the feels.
The videos I use can inspire writing that has nothing to do with the piece I am working on at the time or sometimes I envision the characters I wish to write in the scenes of the videos I am watching.
I have started a YouTube Channel for Orange Bonobo on which I am posting video story starters to help inspire your writing! If you would like to share any writing inspired by these video story starters please feel free to leave a link to your writing in the comments of that particular video. Your writing can help inspire fellow writers too! Please subscribe to Orange Bonobo so you do not miss out on all of the video story starters! And of course, please share the videos you enjoy or that helped inspire you!
