Yannick Fortin - May 11, 1991 - Mattawin, Quebec

Yannick Fortin - 6 - missing from Mattawin, Quebec since May 11, 1991

On Saturday morning, May 11, 1991, six-year-old Yannick Fortin was last seen playing alone in the backyard of the family home, which overlooks the Saint-Maurice River. The family cat, who followed Yannick around wherever he went, went missing at the same time. Yannick's father, Adrien Fortin, surmised that the cat may have been drinking out of the river and Yannick may have fallen in trying to pick the cat up.

Over 150 people, mostly volunteers, searched the woods surrounding the Fortin house. Police brought in helicopters, tracking dogs, and all terrain vehicles to locate the young boy. Police divers were also called in to search the Saint Maurice River.

No trace of Yannick has ever been found.

Yannick Fortin has auburn hair and black eyes. He was 3'5" tall and weighed 44 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue cotton pants, a yellow cotton sweater, and red and blue nylon shoes.

Yannick's disappearance reminded me of the disappearance of Dylan Ehler from Truro, Nova Scotia. Both little boys were outside in the backyard near a body of water in the month of May. Neither boy was found after searches in the area from which they went missing. Due to the location of the water, both boys are feared drowned.
